Home Run is the first single taken from Glasgow based six-piece Flood Of Red’s recently released album “Leaving Everything Behind”. It is a haunting, reflective song, complimented by Jordan Speirs smooth, melodic vocals which sound especially emotive towards the end as the music quietens and he sings “The rain will never stop for me…I am the black clouds over our road, dark city it will never pass, dark city it will never pass”. Layered over the keyboards, the lines sound especially beautiful with the undertones of Speir’s Glaswegian accent quite apparent. As ever with Flood Of Red, just as we are pulled into a quiet and introspective lull, the guitars and drums kick back in with a vengeance and remind us that we are in fact still listening to a rock band.

On Home RunFlood Of Red muse over past regrets and this track is laced with a mood of gentle melancholy. Speirs ever impressive vocal range is the highlight of this song and the music, at times, seems to fade unintentionally into the background. “Home Run shows the softer side of Flood Of Red than we are accustomed to and suggests that on “Leaving Everything Behind we may feel a complete change in pace and  mood from one track to the next.
