Seth Lakeman - Tiny World
by Joe Richardson | Thursday 12 August 2010
Seth Lakeman has to be one of this country’s most celebrated out and out folk musicians of the last ten years or so with the highlight being his nomination for the 2005 Mercury Music Prize. With a career spanning the last 16 years which includes tours with folk giants such as The Levellers and Jethro Tull, Seth is no stranger to the large stage and bright lights.
Tiny World is a fiddle fronted modern folk song that speaks of love in the open country side and a world which Lakeman is travelling with a loved one. From fields, to the city lights, from a field to a busy party, love blossoms in this genuinely uplifting and pleasant song.
My only criticism is that, during the verse, the musicianship feels a little flimsy and it’s only during the chorus that the song really feels like it has much substance. Overall this is a really nice single. Strong lyrics feel a little let down by music that lacks the substance that it deserves but don’t let that put you off checking out more of what Seth has to offer as he is a genuine talent.
