Tokyo Police Club - Bambi

by Joe Richardson | Monday 27 September 2010

I’m thinking that Canadian indie rockers, Tokyo Police Club, may have just come up with the opening line of the year, if not the decade. That’s not just a sweeping statement but something that I really mean. Any song that opens with “I want to tell you there’s a really good reason that I came home wasted last night.” is going to be a winner with me. Not only have I used that line when my wife questions why I woke her up stumbling around the house in the early hours of the morning but it just seems like it sums up so much else in life. There’s always a good reason why we do things, it’s just that others don’t always see them as really good reasons.

Bambi comes in at well under 3 minutes in length but Tokyo Police Club make every second count. The stop start keys and guitars at the start of the track make you feel that something is bubbling up before the song explodes with Dave Monks vocals. With a low voice, Dave’s vocals sit well alongside the high pitched guitar and keys and really adds an extra element to the song.

Bambi is infectious, bouncy charming and catchy and I’m not sure if I'm going to stop playing it for quite a while yet.
